Hello, Cereal Lovers

Social media is changing our world in more ways than ever before. Cereal, as funny as it may seem, is not
immune from this trend. While this has only been happening for the past few years, it is fair to say that apart from a handful of Facebook pages and Twitter accounts, cereal companies have yet to really take advantage of this industry.

General Mills, however, has recently nibbled with the technology, to get ahead in the breakfast aisle. They quietly introduced
Hello, Cereal Lovers, a Tumblr blog designed "to celebrate all of the reasons people love cereal." I think this is a great way for General Mills to increase consumer awareness about the brands, while doing it in a subtle, yet entertaining way. You have to dig deep to find out that the company is behind it, which is a strategic idea when it comes down to advertising in Social Media.

Hello, Cereal Lovers is big on photos, which consumers tend to enjoy best, and has content similar to sites like Pinterest. It's designed to make cereal not only fun, but also the content is sharable on Tumblr and a range of other social media sites, thus extending the brand awareness even further. This cheap, but profitable idea is just one way that General Mills is creaming the competition in the world of cereal.

Despite what one may think of this venture, I,  being the heavy consumer that I am, believe that General Mills should be complimented on their effort. They recognized that social media cannot be ignored, even when it comes to cereal.
